Seyni Da, Ph.D.
I am an economist and Ph.D. graduate from American University, Washington, D.C., specializing in macroeconomics, international finance, and capital markets. My research bridges the gap between academic rigor and applied policy, focusing on the mechanisms that drive sustainable economic growth and financial stability.
My dissertation investigates corporate de-risking strategies, specifically analyzing how multinational corporations utilize political risk insurance and foreign exchange derivatives to hedge against macro-financial uncertainty. Additionally, my work empirically evaluates the role of absorptive capacity in maximizing the developmental impact of foreign direct investment (FDI).
Prior to my doctoral studies, I gained extensive experience in both the public and private sectors, where I was responsible for conducting macroeconomic analysis and designing policy frameworks aimed at stimulating growth and poverty alleviation. This professional background informs my research, ensuring that my models and analysis are grounded in the complexities of real-world policy challenges.
I am currently on the 2025–2026 job market. You may access my CV and job market paper here.
